Orthodontic treatment (straightening teeth) is not typically considered a cosmetic service. Of course straight teeth lead to a boost of confidence, but straight teeth are also easier to brush and floss which leads to healthier gums. Having teeth properly aligned also decreases the risk of tooth chipping or abnormal wear and helps better support the jaw.

Orthodontics treats malocclusion, which is the technical term for teeth that don’t fit together correctly. Malocclusions affect the health of the teeth and the appearance of the teeth and face.  If you or your child suffers from any of the following malocclusions you would most likely benefit from orthodontic treatment: Overbite, Underbite, Crossbite, Open bite, Un-centered midline, Spacing, or crowding.

Here at Capital Dental Group, orthodontic treatment is completed with either traditional braces (brackets/ bands/ and wires), or with Invisalign™ aligners, the clear alternative to braces.

Braces: Bands are placed around the back molars and small metal (or ceramic) brackets are bonded to the front of the teeth. Arch wires are placed through the brackets and anchored by the bands. Wires are adjusted every 4-6 weeks to bring teeth to their proper position.

Invisalign™: Your doctor will let you know if you are a candidate for Invisalign. Invisalign is a series of clear aligners designed specifically for you. Clear attachments are bonded to the front of a couple teeth, and the aligner snaps onto the attachments. An aligner works for 2-3 weeks at a time and each aligner is designed to move teeth into their proper position.
